The Qatar Goodwood Festival, colloquially known as Glorious Goodwood, represents a social pinnacle within the horse racing calendar, taking place annually towards the end of July at the famed Goodwood Racecourse. This illustrious event has a history spanning over two centuries, featuring the crème de la crème of thoroughbreds in a highly esteemed race, with this year’s prize purse set at an impressive £1M. Backed by the State of Qatar, the event persistently showcases winning jockeys, trainers, and elite horses.
The five-day festival spans from Tuesday to Saturday, with a jam-packed agenda:
- Day 1 – Tuesday (Inauguration ceremony)
- Day 2 – Wednesday (Qatar Sussex Stakes)
- Day 3 – Thursday (Ladies Day)
- Day 4 – Friday (Group 2 Qatar King George Stakes)
- Day 5 – Saturday (Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes)
Goodwood Racecourse offers three distinctive enclosures:
- Richmond Enclosure – Members Only: This esteemed enclosure features sophisticated bars, like the Champagne Lawn and 1812 Bar, multiple restaurants and private suites, as well as prime viewing points of the Parade Ring and Racecourse, including a direct view of the winning post, in addition to sheltered seating in the March Grandstand. A dress code applies here.
- Gordon Enclosure: This is the principal public enclosure at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, where attendees enjoy Parade Ring access, standing views from the March Grandstand, covered seating in the Sussex Stand, near-winning post views, several bars and private suites, the Sussex Bistro eatery, and a variety of informal dining choices. Patrons of the Gordon Enclosure also have access to the Lennox Enclosure.
- Lennox Enclosure: A laid-back enclosure, particularly favoured by families due to its ample children’s playground and vast picnic spots on flat grassy areas. The Lennox Enclosure offers exceptional value along with traditional food and beverage stands. Picnics are allowed, however, glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Patrons of the Lennox Enclosure have no access to other enclosures.
